Where to eat vegan pancakes in Athens? Winners Vegan review

If you’ve been looking for vegan restaurants in Athens, you’ve probably come across Winners Vegan. It’s one of the places I visited when I was there, and here’s how it went.

About Winners Vegan

Winners Vegan call themselves an “exclusive” vegan restaurant with a creative menu and a focus on organic, high quality ingredients.

It’s not a huge spot, with just a handful of tables inside and outside, but it doesn’t seem to get extremely busy.

Address and opening hours

Winners Vegan is located at the Niki Athens Hotel on 27 Nikis Street.

It is open from 5pm to 11:30pm from Wednesday to Friday, 2pm to midnight on Saturday and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Winners Vegan menu

The menu has worldwide influences and offers unique dishes, from the Kimchi Rainbow Noodles to the savoury polenta pancakes.

The drink menu includes coffees with of course the traditional Freddo, juices, beers and cocktails.

Honest review of Winners Vegan

I went there on a Sunday, shortly after the opening and for the whole hour I was there, I was the only customer!

I imagine it gets quite lively in the evening, so if you want to be guaranteed to get a table or prefer a quiet atmosphere, go at noon on a Sunday!

The food

I only had time to visit this spot once and therefore only tried one dish. I wish I had been able to try one of their savoury options, but once I saw that they had Vegan Honeycomb Pancakes on the menu, I couldn’t opt for anything else!

If I didn’t know that I was in a 100% vegan restaurant, I would have questioned whether those pancakes were vegan, that’s how real the honeycomb taste was.

It was a stack of 3 pancakes with a blueberry compote, some fresh blueberries, banana and maple syrup. It was extremely tasty and satisfying.

They may not have been extremely fluffy, but they were dense and filling. I arrived quite hungry and they simply hit the spot.

The only thing that could have made them even better was if the banana was caramelised. This would have made them go from 10/10 to God Tier pancakes.

I also ordered a Freddo cappuccino with oat milk. I only had a handful of Freddos whilst in Athens, but I think it was the best one.

The service

The service was good and I don’t have any negatives to point out. But it’s an “exclusive” restaurant and the atmosphere does reflect it. By that, I mean that I felt a little out of place and not extremely comfortable.

The staff was polite, but they first seemed almost upset when I arrived and asked if I could eat there.

The service was speedy but I was the only one, so it’s hard to tell how it is when it’s busier.

Is it worth the price?

Exclusive restaurant means premium prices. I paid 16.20€ for the pancakes and the Freddo cappuccino. The sweet pancakes were amongst the cheapest items on the menu and that’s also why I chose them. I didn’t feel like paying 15€ for a salad.

It’s not a cheap place to eat at, but I was glad to have been there and treated myself once, as the food was delicious and you could tell the chef put real effort into it.

So overall, I’d say it’s worth the price and if you only have one drink with your dish, you’ll manage to keep the bill under 20€. If you’re a plant-based foodie, I’d recommend visiting Winners Vegan once, the pancakes are worth it!
