Why you should train your abs
Your reason for including ab exercises into your routine should be FUNCTIONAL, not AESTHETIC.
Ab exercises alone will not give you a flat stomach and will not shrink your waist. If you ever see a “six pack challenge” or other nonsense than only relies on ab exercises, please know it’s a massive scam.
Are ab exercises useless then? No. They serve other purposes. They help you build core strength and stability which will benefit you in your everyday life. You have no idea how much you rely on your core for the simplest tasks such as getting dressed or lifting the kettle.
They can also prevent lower back pain and improve your performance in some activities such as running. These are just a few reasons why you should do ab exercises to strengthen your core.
But to reveal your abs, you will need to lose fat and the best resistance training exercises for this will not be sit ups and crunches. They will be deadlifts, squats, all the big compound moves that burn more calories and build more muscle.
This is what I help you do with my online coaching programme.
Kettlebell ab exercises
Now that I’ve got this off my chest, let’s get onto the workout! I’m showing you 5 kettlebell ab exercises which you can do at home (a dumbbell or a bottle work too).
You can do all of them for an ab focused workout (3 sets, 10-15 reps) or pick a few to finish off a full body workout.
Remember that you need to properly activate your abs for these moves to really hit the right muscles. Watch this video on how to engage your abs.
Slow cross body mountain climbers
Plank drag through (my personal favourite)
Bridge & pull over
Leg raises
Straight leg jackknife

PS: I am using my JaxJox Kettlebell (basically 6 KBs in one, super smart concept) which you can read about here.
