Are Veloforte products vegan?

For those following a vegan lifestyle, it's essential to note that most Veloforte products are vegan-friendly. While a small portion of their range may contain animal-derived ingredients, their chews are a safe and satisfying option for those on a plant-based diet.

Veloforte energy chews

Veloforte energy chews are 100% natural and handmade in the UK. Powered by real fruit and electrolytes, they are gluten-free, vegan and free from any additives, preservatives and artificial sweeteners.

One pack contains 6 soft chews that melt in your mouth and are easy to carry whilst running or cycling.

They’re perfect for long efforts of more than 90 minutes, where you’re likely to need replenishing energy.

Each pack provides you with 40 to 44g fast-release carbs (depending on the flavour) as well as 60mg potassium and up to 100mg sodium. This means that unless it’s really hot and humid, this will be enough electrolytes.

The chews come in 4 different flavours:

  • Citro: Citrus & Ginger

  • Mela: Apple & Cinnamon

  • Fresco: Lemon & Cool Mint

  • Amaro: Sour Cherry & Guarana

How much do the Veloforte energy chews cost?

Pricing as of June 2023

You can get 3 packs of the same flavour for £8.25 or £7.01 on subscription.

The 12 pack option costs £30.79 or £26.17 on subscription. A 24 pack option is also available for £54.99 or £46.74 on subscription.

I’d highly recommend setting up a subscription, as it’s super flexible and you can pause, reschedule or cancel anytime via your account.

If you’d like to sample all the flavours, you can opt for the mixed bundle. The price starts at £9.34 on subscription for 4 packs.

My honest review of the Veloforte energy chews

I discovered Veloforte chews when doing some research about vegan sports nutrition and looking for alternatives to gels, which I was at the time too nervous to try.

I tried a couple brands before stumbling upon Veloforte chews and they quickly became my favourites. I’ve now been using these vegan chews for over a year and they’ve been helping me get over my fear of taking on some nutrition during my runs, both in training and races.

What I love the most about the Veloforte chews

  • Because they’re made with natural ingredients only, they don’t have the sickening artificial taste of some other brands. They’re fruit and sweet without being overwhelming, and I find all the flavours enjoyable, with the Mela and Fresco ones being my top favourites.

  • These chews never lead to any digestive issues or discomfort. Whether I have them just before starting my run or during interval sessions, I never have any worries about potential stomach troubles.

  • They’re easy to carry and while swallowing a gel might be slightly easier when running fast, these chews are a solid alternative if you're not keen on gels.

How I use the Veloforte chews

I use the chews several times a week, when I have a long run or a speed workout. I usually have a couple before heading out.

If my long run will exceed 90 minutes, I take the rest of the pack with me to have a couple more during the effort.

I run in the morning before breakfast, and sometimes I’ll even have a chew before an easy 8-10k if feel a little low on energy and don’t want to run completely fasted.

On race days, I also have a couple chews at the start line before the gun goes, and if I run a half marathon I’ll carry the rest of the pack.

I’ve never had to have a chew during a race but I like to have them just in case I need a top up, and I eat the rest of the pack when I finish to replenish energy quickly.

I’m still a little scared of gels and even if I do get used to them, I’ll probably still reach for the chews often, because I absolutely love how they taste and I know I can rely on them to support my performance without any risk of gut issues.
