Top 3 vegan food spots in Edinburgh: Vegan smoked salmon bagels, cupcakes, waffles & more!
I spent a few days in Edinburgh and I was blown away by the vegan food scene. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to try every vegan restaurant (I need to go back!) but here are 3 vegan food spots that you absolutely need to check out if you’re in Edinburgh!
Naked Bakery: the best vegan waffles & cupcakes in Edinburgh
Naked Bakery is possibly the cutest, 100% vegan spot I’ve visited. Purple flower wall, neon sign, lovely cafe vibes and an incredibly colourful menu.
I had the “Rose Moon Waffle” which is half a pink waffle with an avocado rose, tofu scramble with spinach, beetroot hummus and pink mayo. Delicious! It was a bit small for a lunch (but reasonably priced at £7).
My partner went for the “Signature Burger”: a house made beetroot brioche bun with Beyond Meat Burger, lettuce, tomato, beetroot hummus, avocado, pink mayo and fries. This was £10, nothing to complain about.
As we still had some room for dessert (and the cakes on display looked so tempting), we had a Biscoff cupcake and a slice of the cake of the day. Both were really, really good.
The only slight disappointment was the smoothie we ordered. It was not fresh enough and tasted like strawberry milk, a bit boring in my opinion.
Check out the food menu here - PS: I would suggest booking a table, it is tiny and gets full quickly.
Seeds for the Soul: the best vegan nourish bowls & burgers in Edinburgh
Seeds for the Soul is another cute vegan cafe where I’d also recommend booking beforehand.
They have a good range of burgers (made with Beyond Meats patties), bowls, bagels and wraps for lunch. My partner had the “Beyond Cheese Burger” and he loved it.
I went for the Middle Eastern Bowl (falafels, hummus, roasted chickpeas, red cabbage, carrot, cucumber and a delicious mango chutney), which was full of flavours. Count about £13 for a burger and £10 for a nourish bowl.
There are also vegan cakes if you have some room for dessert and if you fancy a late breakfast, the 10-12pm menu has a full vegan breakfast, pancakes and bagels.
Black Rabbit: the best vegan smoked salmon bagels in Edinburgh
Black Rabbit is a 100% vegan deli where you can quickly grab a bagel or sandwich made to order. They also have savoury pastries, cakes and cupcakes.
Whilst I absolutely wanted to try their vegan smoked salmon (yes, vegan salmon!) and cream cheese bagel, other items on the menu seemed incredibly tasty, such as the “Hungry Rabbit”: Grilled and marinated mushrooms, Greek style cheese, red onion, roasted red peppers and rocket in grilled sourdough.
All items are between £4.5 and £6, which is reasonable for a fresh and tasty lunch.
We also got a cruffin, which has the shape of a muffin but the texture of a croissant and we regretted buying only one!
