RunThrough Tatton 10k race review & RunThrough Discount Code

Are you thinking of entering a Tatton 10k race? I did my first one in September 2021 and I actually came home with a PB! Here’s everything you need to know about RunThrough Tatton 10k race & my personal experience!

RunThrough Tatton 10k race details

This race is organised by Run Through. It takes places pretty much every month, on a Saturday morning at Tatton Park.

The race village with number pick up, sponsors, toilets, parking, start and finish line are all in the same area of the park which makes the process super smooth.

The exact address is : Tatton Park, Ashley Road, Knutsford WA16 6QQ

How to get your race number?

You pick it up in the morning at the race village. You have until 8:15 to pick it up, I would recommend arriving before 8am to avoid the crowds. Your race pack includes a number to pin on your top and a chip that you put on your shoe.

What is the entry fee?

I paid £22. The entry includes free entry and parking at Tatton park, a finisher medal, water, post-race snacks and race photos available for free on Tatton 10k Facebook page.

The course

Despite being undulating with some bouts of elevation, it’s quite a fast road closed 10k race entirely inside Tatton Park. You get to run in a beautiful scenery, surrounded by nature, water and animals.

The road is smooth most of the way, with a bit of gravel at the start and in the middle, as well as some bouts of dirty terrain. If you’re running on a rainy day, you might get muddy feet!

You don’t need to carry water with you, as it’s “only” 10k and they were giving away water at the 5k mark as well as at the finish line.

You can check the map and what the elevation is on my Strava.

I also filmed a race day vlog, feel free to check it out!

Race day info: what to expect

What time should you arrive?

The race started at exactly 8:45 (the warm up started around 8:30). I arrived around 7:50 and headed straight to the number collection desk before it got too busy. Number collection finishes at 8:15 so make sure to arrive early enough.

There was a dedicated warm up just before the marshals guided us into a start formation by estimated finish times, with two runners side to side, two meter apart.

Where to park?

This is not the usual Tatton park car park and entrance. Enter Tatton Park via Ashley Road, which is a small road on the left when you’re on Mereside Road. From there, marshals guide the cars to park on the grass.

Where are the toilets?

There are portable toilets at the race village next to the car park.

If it rains?

Unfortunately there’s nowhere to find shelter unless waiting in your car, that’s the only downside of this race village!

My first RunThrough Tatton 10k experience

This was my second 10k race and it did not disappoint. Coming home with a PB made it even better! I am glad it was not raining, otherwise it would have been a less enjoyable (and more muddy) experience!

I thought the elevation would feel worse than it actually was, probably because of the undulation you go uphill then you soon turn around to go downhill.

It was a fairly “small” race with just a few hundred people, perfect if you’re not a fan of huge running crowds. I can only speak for the race I did, but it wasn’t a highly competitive field with only a few “elite” runners, which can also be reassuring for some people.

What I particularly enjoyed:

As mentioned everything was close by so it made the process much quicker, and it’s nice to only have to walk for a few minutes to get to your car at the end!

Running through Tatton Park was a pretty awesome experience, the scenery and seeing animals around give you something to look at and can help take your mind off the effort when it gets hard! The closed road race meant that you didn’t need to worry about cars, which I personally prefer.

The marshals were super encouraging on the way, making sure we were going the right way and some of them were playing music with a speaker, which is always nice!

I would absolutely recommend this race, whether it’s your first or 20th race, whether you’re here for a PB or an enjoyable weekend run. I will be looking forward to doing it again in Spring!

Top tip:

Safety pins are fine, but race number magnets are better in my opinion. No risk to make a hole in your top! These magnets are less than £10 and can be used over and over again for many races.
