Ocean Bottle review: the best reusable bottle?

If you’ve looked to get a reusable water bottle, you’ve probably come across Ocean Bottle. They created a leak-proof and durable bottle that looks elegant on your desk, but they’re also also on a big mission to clean up the oceans and empower local communities, one reusable bottle at a time.

Ocean Bottle: on a mission to end ocean plastic pollution

Since launching in 2019, Ocean Bottle has been pursuing the same mission: prevent plastic from polluting our oceans by collecting it and putting some of it into reusable bottles, whilst also helping local communities along the way.

How does Ocean Bottle contribute to reducing ocean-bound plastic?

Ocean Bottle have partnered up with entities such as Plastics for Change that set up plastic collection points in areas of the world where plastic pollution is getting out of hand.

For each Ocean Bottle sold, the company funds the collection of 11.4kg of plastic, which represents over 1000 plastic bottles. The focus is on plastic collection in rivers and waterways, before it reaches the ocean.

All sorts of plastic are collected, even non-recyclable plastic which is then co-processed and creates energy.

Through these partnerships, Ocean Bottle has collected the equivalent of over 8 million plastic bottles and their big ambition is to reach 7 billion plastic bottles collected by 2025.

Empowering communities

The plastic collection points are set up in multiple areas where plastic pollution is an urgent issue, from Mombasa (Kenya) to Rio (Brazil), as well as Cairo (Egypt) and several Asian countries such as Indonesia and India.

Locals are paid faire wages to collect the plastic and this income gives them access to healthcare, education and other important resources to improve their quality of life.

Ocean Bottle carefully selected their partners based on their ethics, ensuring that the workers would be paid and treated fairly.

So far, over 6000 families have been supported through this system with Ocean Bottle.

Ocean Bottle’s range

The very first Ocean Bottle product was the Original Ocean Bottle (500ml), which is still a best-seller.

The range has now expanded, with these main new additions:

• The Big Ocean Bottle (1000ml)

• The Brew Flask (350ml)

• The Ocean Bottle GO (500ml)

Each product comes in several colourways, such as Ocean Blue or Forest Green.

As part of a recent capsule collection, the Original Ocean Bottle comes in 3 new colourways inspired by the minerals of the Earth: Shale Green, Sahara Red and Sand Stone.

Each product is made of recycled stainless steel, BPA-free plastic, silicone rubber and ocean-bound plastic. All these materials can be fully recycled.

Ocean Bottle review

I have been using the Big Ocean Bottle (1000ml) which is a larger version of the Original Ocean Bottle. I mainly use it as a refillable water bottle and I occasionally put coffee in it, but you can basically fill your bottle with any drinks or even soup.

The double wall vacuum-insulated stainless steel means that your smoothie will stay cold and your coffee will stay hot (for up to six hours!) . Plus, your drink won’t spill everywhere, thanks to the leak-proof design.

Not only does the bottle look timeless and stylish with its sleek design, but it also has some handy features like the easy carry loop, so that you can still hold your bottle when your hands are full.

Finally a leak-proof reusable bottle!

The fact that this bottle is 100% leak-proof is my favourite Ocean Bottle feature! I’ve had too many bad surprises with other bottles, which were supposed to never leak, but would always spill inside my bag.

With Ocean Bottle I don’t need to worry about it anymore, the anti-leak seal keeps its promises, even when the bottle isn’t upright.

Easy to clean

Another thing I love about the design of this bottle is how easy it is to clean. It features a dual opening system so that you can clean the inside more effectively. The bottle also goes in the dishwasher!

This stainless steel bottle is sturdy and will accompany you on countless tube journeys, office days, fitness classes and days out.

But if something were to break, you’re covered with Ocean Bottle’s 10-year repair and replacement scheme, covering “manufacturing defects and parts that have been accidentally broken”.
