When is your skin ready to move up to Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20?
Medik8 Crystal Retinal is a must when it comes to anti-ageing skincare. If you’re already using it, here’s when to switch to Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20 and if you’re not, here are the incredible benefits that will make you want to jump on the Crystal Retinal bandwagon!
What are the benefits of Medik8 Crystal Retinal?
Medik8 Crystal Retinal is a highly effective Retinaldehyde-based serum that offers several impressive skin benefits.
Retinaldehyde (or retinal for short) is a groundbreaking form of vitamin A that works up to 11 times faster than standard Retinol. It effectively addresses fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture and loss of firmness, all while minimising irritation.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal comes in six different strengths. Start with the lowest dose if you’re new to Retinoids or have sensitive skin, then progressively move up the ladder to continue experiencing the anti-ageing benefits of the formula.
Here are the key benefits of using Medik8 Crystal Retinal over standard Retinol:
1. Faster results with less irritation
Retinaldehyde works up to 11 times faster, which means you can see visible results—such as smoother texture, improved tone, and reduced fine lines—more quickly.
2. Enhanced skin penetration
Retinaldehyde is one step closer to the active form of Vitamin A (retinoic acid) than retinol. This allows Retinaldehyde to penetrate the skin more effectively, providing faster and more noticeable results.
3. Patented delivery system
Medik8’s patented time-release system ensures that Retinaldehyde is delivered in a controlled, gradual manner, enhancing both its efficacy and tolerance. This system also helps improve skin penetration and reduces the risk of irritation.
When can you transition from Medik8 Crystal Retinal 10 to 20?
Disclaimer: don’t start with strength 10 if your skin isn’t used to Retinoids! I started at level 3 then progressively climbed the ladder, leading me to buying my first Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20 recently.

Are you at level 10? Here’s what to consider before taking it up a notch:
You need to have finished at least one tub of Crystal Retinal 10. I personally finished two before moving up.
If you’ve not experience any significant irritation (such as redness, peeling or dryness), your skin is ready for a stronger concentration.
If you’ve been using Crystal Retinal 10 and are experiencing sensitivity, it's best to maintain that concentration until your skin has fully adapted.
If you're ready to move up, you can begin by alternating between Crystal Retinal 10 and Crystal Retinal 20 a few times a week, rather than switching to the higher concentration every night right away.

Always keep in mind:
Always apply retinoids at night, as they make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
Follow with a night moisturiser to mitigate potential dryness or irritation. I swear by Medik8 Advanced Night Restore.
Apply sunscreen during the day to protect your skin from increased sun sensitivity.
