Does Skin + Me really work? Honest review and results + Discount Code
You’ve probably heard about Skin + Me, the personalised prescription skincare brand that has taken the beauty world by storm. But how does it work, and is it actually effective? Here’s everything you need to know about Skin + Me and my honest review based on the results I’ve seen.
*This is a collaboration with Skin + Me, but as always, this post reflects my own opinions and I wouldn’t recommend anything I don’t genuinely use and get benefits from.
Skin + Me: the concept
Skin + Me was born in 2018 in the UK, in collaboration with Consultant Dermatologists and Pharmacist Independent Prescribers.
Skin + Me helps you tackle skin issues with custom-made skincare solutions that are dermatologist-designed and offer the ideal combination of active ingredients to achieve your skin goals.
Skin + Me specialises in treating acne, pigmentation and signs of ageing.
How do you get your personalised skincare solution?
Simply head over to Skin + Me website to fill out a questionnaire. You’ll be asked a variety of questions, covering your skin concerns, primary skin goal. health history and lifestyle (caffeine intake, refined sugar consumption, sleep, stress…).
You’ll also be asked to send close up photos of your face so the dermatologist can see your skin.
Who makes your prescription?
Once your online consultation is complete, a Skin + Me Pharmacist Prescriber will review it within 3 days (for me it took less than a day) then prescribe your personalised skincare solution.
You’ll receive your treatment plan via email with information about the ingredients used in your custom-made solution.
What do you receive?
You receive your Daily Doser, which is your custom-made skincare solution to use every evening. A new one is shipped every 4 weeks so you never run out.
You can also add a trial set of Skin + Me cleanser and moisturiser for free in your first order.
How much does it cost and is there a Skin + Me discount code?
Your Skin + Me Daily Doser costs £29.99, this is a 4 week supply.
But you can Head over here and save 60% on your first month’s treatment, and 30% off months two and three with code AW60
As for the cleanser and moisturiser, you can receive the full size products for £30 every 8 weeks.
Is Skin + Me vegan and cruelty free?
Yes, Skin + Me is cruelty-free. As stated on their website: “All of our own brand cosmetic and personal care products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme”.
They also state that their skincare products are vegan.
How to incorporate Skin + Me into your skincare routine?
To minimise any side effect (especially the first month), it is recommended to follow a stripped back skincare routine (which is also time saving!). This looks like:
In the morning: cleanser, moisturiser and SPF.
In the evening: cleanser, Skin + Me Daily Doser and moisturiser (wait 10 minutes between the application of the Daily Doser and moisturiser).
You can use the Skin + Me cleanser and moisturiser or keep using your favourites from other brands.
However it is not recommended to use any exfoliants (AHA, BHA) or Retinol alongside Skin + Me, especially the first few weeks, to optimise your treatment and reduce irritation.
How long does it take to see results?
It usually takes about 4 weeks to see noticeable improvements.
The first 2 to 4 weeks, you skin will adjust to the powerful active ingredients in your solution, which are starting to increase the cell turnover. You may experience some dryness or redness.
Between 4 and 8 weeks, the ingredients start targeting the acne-causing bacteria and your skin is clearing up.
After 8 weeks, your skin is looking significantly better, with less congestion, pigmentation and inflammation.
Does your Skin + Me treatment change overtime?
Yes. When you receive your initial treatment plan, you can see your prescription for the first 4 months and it’s likely to be slightly different every month.
Mine had slight changes in the dosage of an active ingredient and a new ingredient was added in the formulation for the 4th month.
You can also contact your Pharmacist Prescriber anytime via email, in case you’re experiencing skin reactions, would like to request a review or if you’ve achieved your primary skin goal and would like to work on another goal with a new treatment.
My Skin + Me experience: honest review and results
Online consultation and treatment
I found the online consultation phase very thorough, with questions not only about my skin concerns and goals but also my lifestyle. It only took a few hours to receive an email with my treatment plan from Pharmacist Prescriber Chandni.
A few days later, I received my very first Skin + Me delivery containing my Daily Doser for the first 4 weeks and my trial set of cleanser and moisturiser.
What I like the most about Skin + Me
Here’s what I really enjoy about Skin + Me:
The convenience: From the online consultation to receiving your prescription at home, it’s time-saving, hassle-free and a great solution for busy people.
The clarity. I know exactly what’s in my personalised Daily Doser and the purpose of each ingredients. I also know how to get in touch should I need to tweak the prescription.
The handy Daily Doser bottle with Twist + Click technology. You simply twist the bottle for the product to come out until your hear the click, letting you know that this is the right amount for one application.
The product itself. The Daily Doser penetrates super quickly, it has a lightweight, non greasy texture. I thought it might smell “pharmaceutical” which would be off-putting, but it actually has a refreshing, delicate smell.
The packaging: I like that Skin + Me focus on using the least amount of packaging possible for the parcels. They fit in a letterbox. Plus, the Daily Doser is packaged in infinitely recyclable aluminium, which is more environmentally-friendly than plastic.
Any negatives?
I personally love skincare and having such a stripped back skincare routine isn’t what I enjoy the most. I’m looking forward to gradually re-incorporating more products. However I can totally see how time-saving it is for someone who’s not that much into skincare and wants a straightforward routine with the least possible amount of products.
My Skin +Me prescription
First, let me give some context. I’ve never had any major skin issues in my teens and my twenties, just a few spots here and there but overall, I had very good skin.
I’ve started to experience more serious breakouts in the past year or so, mostly on my jaw and chin area (red, inflamed bumps) as well as congestion on my forehead.
Thankfully it’s been on and off, but between December and early February (when I started my Skin + Me treatment) my skin became very inflamed. I had stubborn acne on one side of my jaw that wouldn’t go away.
I wanted to get my healthy skin back and also target my first signs of ageing, especially fine lines.
Chandni from Skin + Me prescribed a solution that would address inflammation and acne, whilst working on signs of ageing.
The active ingredients in my Daily Doser for the first 3 months are:
Tretinoin: a retinoid that reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Clindamycin: an antibiotic that has anti-inflammatory effects
Azelaic Acid: an antioxidant that improves skin texture
My results using Skin + Me
I was so upset to see my skin being the worst it’s ever been that I deleted the photos I sent for the consultation. The first photo was taken after using Skin + Me for 2 weeks.
After 2 weeks, my existing breakout area was clearing up and no new spots were appearing. My skin also looked healthier overall. I was pleased to experience barely any side effect the first few weeks, just a little bit of dryness.
After 4 weeks, I still had a little bit of congestion, but no more red, inflamed spots on my jaw. I was feeling confident going out makeup free again.
I could also tell that my skin texture had improved. It feels smooth to the touch and I noticed that I have less little pimples on my forehead. I had never tried Azelaic Acid before, maybe it’s what I needed!
I appreciate that it can take longer for people with more severe acne to see results, but based on my experience, following the Skin + Me protocol can be really helpful to address skin concerns.
It’s now been 6 weeks at the time of publishing. My skin looks much healthier, it’s more radiant, smoother and I only had a couple new spots when I had my period. My skin right now is the clearest it’s been in a long time.
Edit: 12 week update - I’ve not had any major breakouts in the past few weeks. My skin texture has definitely improved since I started using Skin + Me. I used to have some little underskin bumps on my chin which have completely disappeared.
