Nike Women's Invincible Run 2 review: the best shoe for easy runs?

I love a cushy shoe for my easy run days, so I was really looking forward to trying out the latest version of the Nike ZoomX Invincible, known for its max-cushioning and incredible responsiveness.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Nike Women's ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 2 and my honest review.

This is a collaboration with Nike, however all opinions are my own and I was not given any directions for this review.

EDIT: the Invincible 2 are currently unavailable on Nike website, but you can find them (currently discounted) on:

Nike Women's ZoomX Invincible 2: a max-cushioned road running shoe

The Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 2 was designed for those who want to have it all: a springy step, a whole lot of cushioning, a breathable feel and a reduced risk of injury.

This new and improved version of the original Nike ZoomX Invincible makes the max-cushioned shoe softer and bouncier, for easy runs that feel even easier.

Nike ZoomX foam: cushy, comfy, lightweight

Nike’s legendary ZoomX foam is incredibly soft and cushy on one hand, but also bouncy like and super responsive on the other hand. It can quickly return back to its original shape when your foot lands on the ground, ready to take off again and you get the best of both world, which is what makes the ZoomX foam so unique.

The midsole is wide and tall, actually taller than most trainers: 37mm for the heel stack and 28mm at the front, which makes it Nike’s most cushioned running shoe (and possibly the most cushioned shoe in the market right now).

Plus, the foam is distributed in such a way that whether you’re a forefoot or heel striker, you’ll get the same cushy feel.

Flyknit components for optimal stability

The Invincible 2 feature 3 Flyknit components that keep the foot locked in place without weighing you down.

The Flyknit mesh is found at the tongue to adapt to your foot, on the upper for a secure fit and back at the heel.

Reduced risk of injury

Alongside the secure fit guaranteed by Flyknit, the foam features a pendulum geometry for added stability, reducing the risk of developing muscular imbalances and niggles.

Plus, the waffle outsole provides more grip so that you can tackle corners with confidence.

How much do the Nike ZoomX Invincible 2 cost?

Both women’s and men’s shoes retail at £164.95. However, at the time of writing this article, several colourways are on sale with up to 40% off!

It might be worth checking before you go for the classic black pair. If you don’t mind a bit of colour, you could get a pair for less than £100.

Sizing?

The Invincible 2 are true to size. If you’re between sizes, you may want to opt for the smallest.

I am a 37 EU, which is between Nike’s UK 3.5 and 4.5. I have the Invincible 2 in size 3.5 and they fit like a glove.

My honest review of the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit 2

Love at first stride

The very first run left me wondering why on Earth I hadn’t tried the Invincible until now. I felt incredible in them from the get go and really understood what the ZoomX hype is about.

The first run (and all the others) was super smooth, giving me the impression to run on a softer surface, yet making me feel super stable and in control.

If anything, I was surprised to see that my easy pace was on the higher end of my usual spectrum. I thought the softness might slow me down, but the bounce is real and the energy return puts a spring in your step.

Sometimes, an easy run feels like a slog but I feel like such thing cannot happen with how springy the Invincible 2 are!

How do they fit?

Nike shoes tend to be on the narrow side, however the Invincible 2 seems to be the exception to the rule.

The new version has slightly wider spacing between the laces, so that the fit is a little less tight and the upper is able to stretch to adapt to your foot shape.

This contributes to making the shoe fit like a glove from your very first test run.

What type of runs are the Nike Invincible 2 for?

The Invincible 2 are mainly designed for easy running, making you feel like you could go on an on. Their good grip gives you extra stability when the road is slightly wet or to negotiate tight corners.

They are the perfect shoe for a recovery run the day after a session and for longer, easy runs.

But the ZoomX foam provides great energy return and the rebound increases when you pick up the pace. This makes them a great shoe choice for your steady runs too.

Are they the best road running shoe for easy runs?

Many runners rave about the Invincible 2 and it’s not for no reason. They are incredibly comfortable, soft yet super bouncy and they still allow you to pick up the pace, to go from easy to steady.

They tick all the boxes and once you’ve tried the ZoomX foam you’re hooked. It truly is something else.

Plus, they will suit almost every runner, with a slightly wider fit and an optimal foam distribution for every foot strike.

If you love a well-cushioned shoe, it’s a no brainer really, the Nike Invincible 2 is for you.
