Nike Pegasus Shield characteristics
Cozy fleece on the inside
Crafted akin to a cozy jacket for your feet, the upper knit material ensures warmth. Strategically placed around the toes, skins act as a barrier for water. Plus, the back of the tongue is insulated to maintain optimal warmth.
“Stay dry” features
The water-repellent finish combined with the gusseted tongue and heathered lining in the collar ensure to keep your feet and ankle dry on those rainy runs.
Grippy outsole
Prepared for rainy conditions, the Storm-tread outsole ensures reliable traction in challenging weather. Drawing inspiration from winter tires, its textured design incorporates micro grooves that firmly grip the road so you can run through all kinds of weather.
Nike React technology
The lightweight and robust React foam ensures a responsive and smooth ride. It’s also equipped with Zoom Air units at the forefoot and heel for a springy toe-off.
What types of runs are the Pegasus Shield for?
Just like the rest of the Pegasus collection, the Shield are a daily trainer primarely made for easy runs of all lengths, whether it’s a 5k before work or a 2 hour easy run on the weekend.
But the Nike React foam is so springy and responsive that you can also use these shoes for steady-paced runs, and the grippy outsole guarantees to keep you on your feet even when the roads are wet.
Nike Pegasus Shield review
The Nike Pegasus holds a special place in my running journey. The Pegasus 37 were my very first pair of proper running shoes when I started running seriously in 2021. I then upgraded to the Pegasus 39 last year and the Pegasus 40 this year, which I reviewed here.
As someone who isn't the biggest fan of rain, wind, and cold weather, gearing up for winter runs requires a bit of extra motivation. The Shield promises to be the ally I need to keep my running through all kinds of weather and *try to* enjoy my runs during the colder months.
It's like having a trusted companion that not only supports my feet but also shields them from the elements, allowing me to focus on what gives me a much needed endorphin kick to get through the grim days: running.
I’ve not had them for long, but thanks to the British weather, I’ve already had several opportunities to put their water-repellent properties to the test and can confirm that live up to the “Shield” name and keep my feet dry!
Another great feature is the fleece-inspired inside material, with the upper acting as a snug jacket for the feet. Plus, the insulated back of the tongue guarantees to keep the cold at bay.
When a shoe features the Nike React foam, you know you’re in for a smooth ride. Lightweight and responsive, the React cushioning is here to infuse each stride with a bounce, making you look forward to your next easy run.
Finally, I’ve found so far that the grippy outsole does a great job at navigating wet and potentially slippery roads, offering great stability.
Whilst Winter running isn’t my favourite, having the perfect running gear to face all kinds of weather definitely helps me get out the door with more enthusiasm, knowing my feet will stay warm and dry!
