Fitness Room at Andaz London Review | Five Star luxury Hyatt hotel in London

I was kindly invited to stay at the Andaz hotel in London and to review their new Fitness Room concept. As a fitness enthusiast, I was really curious about the idea of a “fitness hotel room” and I was looking forward to the experience.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Fitness Room at Andaz London and my honest review.

About Andaz London Liverpool Street

Andaz is a 5 start hotel and part of the Hyatt Group. It is located at the heart of East London and set in a huge Victorian building from the 19th Century.

It’s a great location if you love Shoreditch or if you want to have easy access to the main sightseeings.

All the rooms are equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, a huge smart TV, Yukata robes and REN toiletries. They also feature a complimentary mini bar.

There is a Whatsapp message service for guests which I found really handy instead of calling the front desk.

The guests can enjoy the fitness centre, the steam room and in-room spa treatments.

The lobby is very spacious and inviting. If you arrive before the 2pm check in time like I did, you can have a seat, plug your laptop and get some work done. Which is a good thing, because my room was not ready at 2pm (I’m unsure how often this happens) so I had to wait almost an extra hour.

You can check out this vlog for a room tour and more insights into my stay :)

The fitness room concept at Andaz London

Andaz have opened a couple of Fitness rooms which are designed for fitness enthusiasts who want to exercise in the comfort of their own room.

It can be very handy if you’re on a work trip, have busy days but still want to keep up with your fitness. You’ll really enjoy this spacious and comfortable room, the really nice shower to relax after a long day and the wide desk to get some work done in the room.

Not to mention more than enough power outlets on each side of the bed and at the desk too, which is not always the case in some hotels.

The Peloton bike

The key selling point is of course the Peloton bike. You can simply log into your existing account or create a new one if you’re a Peloton newbie like I was.

There were so many classes to choose from, with various lengths and levels of intensity and although you’re on your own, you get the “fitness class” spirit with the uplifting instructors and the other riders tuning in.

Weights

Light dumbbells (for arm exercises on the Peloton) and a yoga mat are also in the room. I was asked which additional dumbbells I wanted in the room, so I would imaging that it’s something you can request as a guest.

Unfortunately I didn’t get the weights I asked for, but I got two extra pairs of heavier dumbbells.

Dining at Andaz London

There are several restaurants inside the Andaz. Our complimentary dinner was at the Eastway Brasserie on the first floor. The menu features all your brasserie classics such as burgers, risotto, sharing boards.

There were a few vegan and veggie options, we went for the vegan burgers. The sticky toffee pudding on the dessert menu is vegan, and we decided to share one.

The food was great, unfortunately the service was not was you’d expect of a restaurant in a 5 star hotel. To be honest, only one out of the 3 waiters seemed to actually care.

Just to give one example: our burgers were waiting to be served to us for 5 minutes, the waiter in charge of our table didn’t notice so we got up and asked for our food.

I can’t talk about the other restaurants in the hotel as I have not tried then, but with some many great options in this area of London, I would recommend going to a restaurant nearby, you’ll have a better experience.

Breakfast at Andaz London

The breakfast menu seemed really nice with several vegan options (avocado toast, coconut yoghurt bowl, porridge, selection of plant milks…) and we ordered it in the room using the Whatsapp service.

Unfortunately this was a real disappointment and although I am really grateful to the Andaz Team for inviting me, I am unable to recommend having breakfast at the hotel.

My partner who is vegetarian got very cold French toast which didn’t look freshly prepared. My avocado toast arrived with smoked salmon and eggs on top (which I, as a vegan, didn’t ask for). The bread was hard and not fresh. My coffee had been spilled and we had to ask for cutlery. We would have been better off going to the Pret that is just a 2 minute walk away.

Final thoughts

As you can gather from my experience, the hotel is great, the Fitness Room is a great concept for fitness enthusiasts on the go, but we were expecting better service of a 5 star hotel that is part of the Hyatt group.

I was very much looking forward to my stay and was of course hoping to share a super positive review. The room in itself was great and I love the concept of a Fitness Room. I am very grateful for the invitation and for the complimentary stay.

Unfortunately the service impacted our overall experience. If it was only one isolated incident, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it was a series of incidents and for this review to be truly honest, some examples had to be mentioned.
