Female Founded Small Sustainable Businesses I love | IWD 2021
International Women’s Day 2021 seems like the perfect occasion to share with you some of my favourite Female Founded Small Sustainable Businesses. I couldn’t include all the businesses I love, so I decided to focus on the ones I recently discovered.
Although unique in their own way, all these businesses share the same focus on sustainability and are of course, run by incredible women. Here’s my 2021 round up!
Some of my favourite Female Founded Small Sustainable Businesses
Eleanor Jewellery Design
Based in Manchester, Eleanor is a jewellery designer who creates timeless pieces with recycled sterling silver. Every item is handmade and shipped in plastic-free packaging. If you love minimal, elegant silver jewellery, you will love her collections.
I was kindly gifted a Sheila necklace and I love the fact that it goes well with every outfit. I can see myself still wearing it ten year from now, which makes it a true staple accessory.

Amie Lou London
Amie is getting ready to launch her sustainable, modern swimwear (with a vintage twist) brand in April. She uses her fashion background to design her pieces at home, uses ECONYL® which is made from nylon waste and works with a local factory in London where she can oversee the production.
I absolutely love her swimwear and her Instagram has me dreaming of a post-lockdown holiday!

Rue Clotilde
Rue Clotilde is a sustainable clothing brand based in London. The founder Clotilde creates beautiful t-shirts and tote bags made from 100% organic cotton and vegan prints. A percentage of the sales is donated to Plan International, a charity advocating for children’s rights.
My favourite item from her current collection is the new Eco Fashion Club tote bag.

Gunda Hafner
Gunda Hafner’s brand story started about 10 years ago, when she had several allergic reactions that made her reconsider her whole lifestyle, including her wardrobe. She started creating her own clothes using natural fibres. She managed to find suppliers across Europe and founded her clothing label.
Gunta’s production process aims to keep a low carbon footprint and avoid unnecessary waste as well as provide a safe and enjoyable workplace for the women who work alongside her.
If I had to pick a few favourite items, I would choose this gorgeous silk shirt, this crop top and these beautiful upcycled tablecloth shorts.

Y.O.U. Underwear
Y.O.U stands for Your Own Underwear. After doing some volunteer work in Africa and realizing that many women and children didn’t have access to underwear, the founder Sarah decided to create her own brand, selling undies on a buy-one-give-two model. You buy one, they give two away to people who need it the most.
Not only does the brand help communities get access to underwear, but they also create super comfy undies that are made with 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton and PETA-Approved Vegan!
My favourite items? Probably the bralettes!
