Why take an Omega 3 supplement on a plant-based diet?
Taking an omega-3 supplement on a plant-based diet makes it easier to reach your daily recommended levels of Omega-3, especially EPA and DHA.
Plant-based sources of omega-3, such as flaxseeds, chia seeds and hemp seeds, provide ALA which the body can convert to EPA and DHA. However, this conversion is often inefficient, with only a small percentage of ALA turning into EPA and DHA.
A supplement ensures you get these crucial fats without relying solely on the inefficient conversion of ALA.
Studies have shown that EPA and DHA can lower triglycerides, reduce blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart disease, not to mention their anti-inflammatory benefits.
Plant-based eaters may have a lower intake of these specific fatty acids, increasing the potential need for supplementation.
Plant-based Omega-3 supplements are made with Algae oil, a direct source of EPA and DHA. Algae is actually where fish obtain their omega-3s, so it's a direct, plant-based way to get the same nutrients without consuming fish or fish oil
Vivo Life Plant-Based Omega 3 Oil supplement review
Vivo Life Plant-Based Omega 3 Oil is a vegan-friendly supplement that provides a high-quality, sustainable source of essential omega-3 fatty acids, derived from algae aka the original source of omega-3 in the marine food chain.
Its natural algae taste is softened with a hint of lemon flavour.
How much Omega 3 does one serving contain?
Each serving of Vivo Life Omega 3 provides 300 mg of DHA and 150 mg of EPA, two of the most important omega-3 fatty acids which are vital for maintaining cognitive function, promoting heart health and supporting healthy vision.
Vivo Life's Omega 3 Oil is made from sustainably farmed algae, ensuring it is free from pollutants like heavy metals and microplastics which can be found in fish oil. It is also non-GMO and free from artificial additives, preservatives and fillers.
How to take Vivo Life Plant-Based Omega 3 Oil?
Drop 2ml (the whole pipette) of oil straight onto your tongue. For optimal absorption, it's best to take it with a meal. This helps improve the bioavailability of the EPA and DHA.
Make sure to refrigerate the bottle once you’ve opened it.
My experience taking Vivo Life Plant-Based Omega 3 Oil
I knew that my diet was lacking Omega-3 and was looking for a high quality supplement that would be easy to take, fish-free and ideally wouldn’t taste too bad. I liked the idea of drops instead of capsules and I trust Vivo Life when it comes to ingredient selection, so I decided to give their Omega 3 oil a go.
I’ve just finished my first bottle and it couldn’t have been easier to take. I got into the habit of taking a pipette every day just after lunch.
What I’m the most surprised about is the taste. You can tell it’s algae, but it doesn’t have the unpleasant fishy smell and aftertaste. The addition of lemon oil definitely helps makes it nicer.
Omega 3 supplements are not the kind to deliver obvious results in just a few weeks, it’s about consistency over time to help maintain optimal health by avoiding fatty acid deficiencies.
Now the only downside in my opinion is that it must be kept in the fridge once you’ve unsealed the bottle and have started using the product.
Being someone who travels a lot, I can’t take this supplement with me and it means that I can go a few weeks at a time without taking these drops.
I want to keep this supplement in my routine, so my solution is to use it when I’m home, and to pack Omega 3 softgels in my suitcase when I’m away.
