The Ordinary anti-ageing skincare routine | Vegan anti-ageing skincare
I almost exclusively used The Ordinary products as part of my new anti-aging skincare routine for a few months, in order to review them and form my own opinion. Here are my vegan anti-ageing skincare essentials from The Ordinary, for morning and evening.
5 reasons to love The Ordinary
All of their products are cruelty-free and most are vegan!
The price point is very affordable, from as little as £5
But the formulas feature highly effective compounds and quality ingredients
The brand is widely available online through multiple beauty retailers and their own website.
The brand caters for every skin concern, from acne to aging!
The Ordinary anti-aging morning skincare routine
Step 1: Squalane Cleanser
Start off by cleansing your skin with The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser.
The main ingredient in the cleanser is plant-based Squalane, which is present in the skin but the natural production slows down as we age. Therefore, Squalane is a great anti-aging ingredient, helping to reduce the signs of premature aging.
This cleanser can remove makeup so it’s great to use at night too.
RRP: from £8.30 - Find it on Cult Beauty or The Ordinary
Step 2: Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Hyaluronic Acid is found in the skin and its main function is to retain moisture. Alongside keeping your skin hydrated, it also has a plumping effect, making your skin look rejuvenated.
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 works best applied on damp skin to optimise absorption.
RRP: from £7.90 - Find it on Sephora UK (ex-Feelunique), Lookfantastic or The Ordinary
Step 3: Moisturiser
Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) moisturiser is the next step in the anti-ageing skincare routine.
NMF combines multiple fatty acids, amino acids and other compounds that are naturally present in the skin. The lightweight and non-greasy formula offers both immediate and long-wear hydration.
RRP: from £6.10 - Find it on Cult Beauty or The Ordinary
Step 4: SPF
Applying SPF every day, all year round, is key to slowing down the ageing process and reducing the risk of developing skin conditions related to sun exposure.
Mineral UV Filters SPF 30 with Antioxidants is a great daily sunscreen suitable for all skin types.
RRP: £9.60 - Find it on The Ordinary
I personally use the BB Hyaluronic Skin Tint SPF 25 from Balance Me which is a tinted primer and SPF all in one.
The Ordinary anti-aging evening skincare routine
Step 1: Squalane Cleanser
Exactly the same process as in the morning!
Step 2: A retinol-based serum
Seen as the holy grail of wrinkle prevention, Retinol is included in many anti-aging skincare products. This Vitamin A derivative stimulates the production of collagen to slow down the skin ageing process.
The Ordinary uses a complex called Granactive Retinoid, which has shown better results against signs of aging than the standard retinol. This serum reduces the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation without causing any irritation.
Sun exposure must be avoided when wearing Retinol, which is why this product fits in the evening skincare routine.
There are different strengths of Retinol, it is recommend to start with less than 1% to avoid skin irritation.
RRP: From £7.40 - Browse the Retinol range on The Ordinary or Lookfantastic
Step 3: Facial Massage with Rose Hip Seed Oil
This is by far my absolute FAVOURITE STEP! I love taking a few minutes to give myself a gentle facial massage with The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil.
The only ingredient is cold-pressed, organic Rosehip Seed Oil, rich in linoleic acid and pro-vitamin A, which both reduce signs of photo-aging and deeply nourish the skin.
How to use
I apply a few drops on my cheeks, forehead, chin and neck, a little bit in my hands as well. I am quite generous as I need a lot of “glide” for the face massage.
Not only does finishing your skincare routine with a massage is a great way to relax before going to bed, but facial massage also helps prevent signs of aging. It’s definitely worth taking 5 minutes out of your evening for this!
RRP: £9.70 - Find it on Lookfantastic, The Ordinary
I hope this blog post was helpful and gave you some insights on what to use for an anti-aging skincare routine. I will make sure to share my thoughts on other The Ordinary products I try in the future!
