About Styrkr
The Styrkr story started in 2018 with Christian Sanderson, a passionate cyclist who wanted to solve fuelling issues he personally came across and knew were commonly experienced, such as digestive discomfort and insufficient energy supply over time.
With a team of sports and nutrition experts passionate about endurance sports, Styrkr has been on a mission to create products that deliver sustained energy and hydration, particularly for runners, cyclists, triathletes and other endurance-focused athletes.
The name "Styrkr," which means "strength" in Old Norse, reflects the brand’s mission to empower athletes to push their limits and build resilience.

Styrkr BAR50: high carb rice bar
The Styrkr BAR50 is a nutritionally complete, high-energy bar especially designed for endurance athletes. It is vegan and gluten-free.
Inspired by the traditional rice cakes once favoured by cyclists in the Tour de France, the BAR50 pays homage to these classic snacks. Made from puffed rice and all-natural ingredients, this bar is not only easy to digest but also gentle on the stomach, making it suitable for sustained physical activity.
With a soft, chewy texture, the BAR50 is dense enough to pack 50 grams of carbohydrates and 250-300 calories per bar depending on the flavour.
The BAR50 comes in three different flavours:
Dark Chocolate Chip - 292 kcal
Date, Almond & Sea Salt - 301kcal
Apple, Cinnamon & Caramel - 257 kcal
All three flavours sound good to you? Get the mixed flavour pack!
RRP: £29.99 for 12 bars or £24 with code CHLOEH applied.
What is the difference between the BAR50 and BAR+?
The BAR50 is designed as a high-carb snack, providing you with energy before and during endurance activities.
In contrast, the BAR+ is a recovery-focused bar that boasts a specific 3:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein, making it particularly effective for replenishing energy and supporting muscle recovery. It delivers 45 grams of carbohydrates and 15 grams of protein.
Honest review of Styrkr BAR50
I first came across Styrkr about a little over a year ago on social media. My partner who’s an avid runner was looking for high carb bars that he could consume before his runs without any discomfort.
We ordered a box of Styrkr BAR50 and both enjoyed them so much that they’ve since become a staple in our sports nutrition stash. Whilst he prefers the dark chocolate flavour, I always go for the apple, cinnamon & caramel bars.
What I enjoy the most about the BAR50
The texture is spot on. It’s really easy to chew, which makes it even easier to digest, but at the same time it’s not too soft and mushy.
The compact format makes fuelling a breeze. Not only is it tasty but it’s also rather compact, making it effortless to take on 50g of carbs and ensure you’re well fuelled.
They sit well on the stomach. I don’t take solids when I run, but having one of these bars before I start my long run or interval session gives me enough energy without the discomfort. If I was cycling. I’d find it easier to eat whilst riding and would probably munch on these during my rides!
How I use the Styrkr BAR50 in my sports nutrition strategy
I mostly use these bars as pre-run fuel. When I’m going on a long run or have an interval workout to get through, I have one of those about minutes before starting.
They’re especially great if you’re short on time and need to set off shortly before eating, or if you don’t want to wake up any earlier before a long run on a Sunday!
I’m currently training for a half marathon and having a BAR50 before my long runs has worked so well that I might do that on race morning instead of eating my usual pre-race toast.
On rare occasions, I don’t get to have a proper meal (on a mad rush, travel day for instance) and the BAR50 comes to the rescue. I’ll have one of those to keep me going until I can sit down for a meal.
If you’ve been looking for a high energy snack that is tasty, made with high quality ingredients and won’t upset your stomach, give the BAR50 a go!
