RunThrough Battersea 10k race review - RunThrough discount code

I recently took part in my first RunThrough Battersea 10k race in London. Here’s everything you need to know about this popular RunThrough event and my personal experience.

Please note, I took part in this race in February 24. Some of my comments may not apply to future editions of this race as things may change.

Also, this post is about the Saturday morning event, but there are evening events during the week, which are called Chase the Moon Battersea Park.

RunThrough Battersea Park 5k and 10k: key information

RunThrough organise running, duathlon and triathlon events all over the UK, and the RunThrough Battersea Park 5k and 10k is one of, if not their most popular recurring event in London.

There are several editions throughout the year, open to absolutely everyone whether you’re running your first ever 5k or want to try and get a new 10k PB.

What time does it start?

The 5k runners set off at 9:30am, whilst the 10k runners start at 9:34am.

Where are the start and finish lines?

Both the 5k and 10k start on Central Avenue, but the 10k start line is further up and away from the bandstand.

The finish line for both distances is at the bandstand. On your final lap, you’ll head to the left once arriving at the bandstand instead of keeping right.

How much does the entry cost?

At the time of writing this post, entering either the 5k or 10k event will cost you £28 (+ online processing fee).

How to pick up your race number?

Your race number will be assigned on the day, simply head over to the race HQ set up at the Battersea Park bandstand. It can get quite busy between 8:45 and 9:00, try to collect your number as soon as you arrive.

You don’t need to bring anything, simply give your name. It’s however safer to have the entry confirmation email on your phone, just in case. For instance, if you entered less than 48 hours before race day, you may not be on their list and they’ll need to re-enter you.

What do you get at the finish line?

You get your medal of course, as well as a couple snacks (usually home made flapjack and snacks from a brand sponsor) and water.

What is the course like?

Battersea Park is known to be fast and flat. The 10k race is a 4 lap course fully inside the park, on smooth tarmac.

You can check my Strava activity for the detailed course map.

Can you get a PB at Battersea 10k?

Yes, Battersea Park is pretty much THE place to race if you’re chasing a new PB. Many elite races take place in this park.

Whilst RunThrough races attract a generally more amateur field, the fast and flat course can definitely help you set a new 10k PB.

I personally ran my fastest 10k to date at this race in February 2024, faster than what I ran at the Valencia 10k (known to be also fast and flat with an arguably better field) a month before. Check out this race vlog:

Should you enter the next RunThrough Battersea 10k?

I had taken part in several RunThrough events in London, and done a few Battersea 5k events, but it was my first ever RunThrough Battersea 10k. Here’s what I enjoyed the most.

The positives

  • RunThrough events are always well-organised and very welcoming. Even if the race doesn’t go your way, you’ll have a great morning!

  • The lap format means that you get to see your friends/family supporting you several times.

  • There are portable toilets, but also “real” toilets inside the park not far from the bandstand.

  • It’s a flat course!

Any negatives?

  • The downside of the lap format is that it can become a little repetitive, especially for the 10k race (4 laps) and the final lap is the least enjoyable at it gets congested and you may pass slower runners.

  • The photos are free to download, but there’s no guarantee that you’ll be in any of them.

Other than these minor details, RunThrough Battersea 10k is a great event and I’ll definitely take part in future editions!
