Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium unsponsored review

I got influenced and ordered myself some Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium to try. Is this powder the magic sleep potion everyone seems to be raving about on social media? After using it every day for six weeks, here is my honest, unsponsored review.

I bought this product myself, Pillar Performance do not know that I exist and as always, this review reflects my own opinions and experience.

What is Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium?

Triple Magnesium by Pillar Performance is a supplement that contains 3 forms Magnesium that are highly absorbable by the body: Albion® Magnesium Bisglycinate chelate, Magnesium Bisglycinate dihydrate and Magnesium citrate.

Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in many physiological processes in the body, including energy production, muscle function, bone health and nerve function. It also plays a role in promoting relaxation and supporting sleep quality.

Magnesium is not produced by the body, therefore we need to ensure we get enough of it through diet and supplementation if needed.

The Triple Magnesium powder exists in Berry and Pineapple flavours. Whilst the powder version is the most popular, this product also comes in tablet form.

Many professional endurance athletes are using Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium as part of their recovery routine, from triathletes Magnus Ditlev and Ashley Gentle to marathoner Charlotte Purdue, just to name a few.

What are the benefits of Magnesium supplements for athletes?

Magnesium supplements can often be beneficial to athletes, who often don’t get enough of this crucial nutrient through their diet.

Here are some key benefits to taking a Magnesium supplement like Pillar Performance.

  • Improved muscle function: Magnesium is essential for muscle contraction and relaxation. Supplementing with magnesium can help reduce the risk of cramps, spasms and fatigue during intense exercise.

  • Enhanced energy production: Magnesium is involved in the synthesis of ATP, the primary energy molecule used by cells. With adequate magnesium levels, athletes optimise their performance.

  • Faster recovery: Magnesium supplements can aid in post-exercise recovery by reducing muscle soreness and inflammation. This can help athletes recover faster between training sessions.

  • Reduced risk of injury: Optimal magnesium levels support bone health and strength, reducing the risk of stress fractures and other bone-related injuries which are very common in endurance athletes.

Does Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium improve sleep?

Looking at Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium claims and customer reviews, it looks like this supplement is offering benefits in the sleep department. In fact, many people, myself included, decide to try Triple Magnesium to help improve their sleep first and foremost.

But how does a Magnesium supplement can make you sleep better? The key is Magnesium Bisglycinate, a form of Magnesium that is largely present in Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium.

Although there’s not a lot of research on it yet, studies suggest that it can help improve sleep quality and duration through several benefits:

  • Promotes relaxation: Both magnesium and glycine have calming effects on the nervous system. Magnesium acts as a natural muscle relaxant, while glycine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle.

  • Regulates circadian rhythm: Magnesium Bisglycinate plays a role in regulating the body's internal clock by supporting the production of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep.

  • Reduces stress and anxiety: Magnesium bisglycinate has been shown to have anxiety-reducing effects. And the calmer the mind, the better the sleep.

Is Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium suitable for vegans?

Yes, Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium is vegan and also free from gluten, dairy, nuts, soy and egg. It is sweetened with Stevia.

Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium unsponsored review

If there is one thing I need to improve, it’s my sleep quality and duration. I know that sleep plays a huge part in recovery and muscle repair, and as an amateur runner who’s taking it quite seriously, I’m looking to optimise my recovery to help my progress.

Earlier this year, I decided to take my recovery routine up a notch and one of the things I did was buy my first pouch of Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium.

Everyone seemed to be talking about how amazing their sleep was since taking this apparently magic sleep potion, so I thought it was time to try it for myself.

I took the recommended serving every night (usually a couple hours before going to bed) for six weeks before writing this review. Here are my honest thoughts about Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium, based on my experience.

The taste

I’m not really keen on pineapple, so I went for the berry flavour and almost expected it to taste like medicine. To be completely honest, I didn’t find the taste very pleasant at first and was not able to gulp it down quickly. It was more a “sip by sip” process.

But within a few days, I really got used to the taste (it’s much better with ice cold water) and now I’m actually enjoying it.

The benefits

Looking at my diet, I am pretty confident that I am not getting enough Magnesium so supplementing can only be beneficial for my long-term overall health, even if I don’t necessarily feel the benefits now.

Do I sleep better? Objectively, yes and I had forgotten how good it feels to wake up feeling energised after a full night’s sleep. At first I thought it might be a placebo effect, and even if it is, it’s enough for me to carry on taking this supplement.

That being said, I really think this Magnesium supplement has tremendous effects on my sleep quality and duration. Not only do I fall asleep faster, but I also wake up a lot less through the night. And when I do, I fall back asleep much quicker.

Before, if I were to wake up at 3am, I wouldn’t manage to sleep again and my night would be cut really short. It seems that giving my body more Magnesium helps regulate my body clock, with more regular sleep patterns as a result. Based on my experience, Pillar Performance Triple Magnesium is indeed a sleep potion!

Not to mention that sleeping better undoubtedly has a positive impact on my overall recovery, health, stress levels and running progress! I also find that when I am not sleep-deprived, I am not so tempted by sugary treats.

Is the cost worth it?

A 200g jar or tub costs £39.99 and has 40 servings. This is therefore about £1 per serving. £365 a year is not cheap, but it’s the price I’m willing to pay to sleep well and optimise my recovery.

Eventually, I may end up taking this Magnesium supplement every other day if I feel like it’s enough, but I’m pretty set on carrying on using it as part of my daily evening routine for the foreseeable! I’ll just keep an eye out for discounts!
