My honest review of Form Performance Protein
Between resistance training and (a lot of) running, I’m very active and although I know that it’s important to refuel shortly after an intense workout, I sometimes struggle to find my appetite just after a speed session or a long run.
This is why I decided to introduce the post-workout protein shakes into my recovery habits.
When looking for a “clean” plant-based protein that would be optimal for muscle repair and easy to digest, I came across Form Performance Protein and decided to give the vanilla flavour a go. Here are my honest thoughts.
Taste and texture
The vanilla flavour is just right, with the perfect amount of natural sweetness that doesn’t taste sickly sweet. It doesn't have that artificial aftertaste often found in other protein powders, making it really enjoyable to sip on.
With such a tasty flavour, making a recovery shake after a workout is absolutely not a chore but something I really look forward to.
The texture is also just how I like it: silky smooth and without any gritty or chalky residue. I make the effort to blend the protein with almond milk (with frozen blueberries and chia seeds which cause the little black dots in the photos) so it has the perfect protein smoothie consistency, but I’d bet that if you were to just shake it in a shaker with water, it would still mix better than most vegan proteins.
Does this vegan protein cause bloating?
Like many, I experienced bloating from some protein powders, even when taking only half a serving. One great thing about Form is that I’ve not had any digestive discomfort.
I have a full serving every time and I’ve not felt bloated once. I guess the digestive enzymes in the blend do a fine work here!
Is it worth the price?
£26 (one-time purchase price) for 13 servings is not cheap, especially if you have a daily protein shake. Personally, I use it twice to three times a week, so my first pouch lasted a little over a month.
To me, the quality of ingredients especially with the BCAA and complete protein profile, the super satisfying taste and easy digestion make it worth every penny.
I consider this as an investment on my health and long-term wellness, and I’d rather pay more for a high quality protein than use a cheaper product that tastes crap and is full of ingredients I can’t pronounce.
I will take advantage of the subscription option to make some savings and I might try different flavours, although I’m absolutely loving my vanilla shakes!
To sum it up, if you’ve been looking for a complete vegan protein that not only tastes fantastic but is also specifically formulated for muscle repair and is kind to your digestive system, I would highly recommend trying Form Performance Protein!
