Fell off track? Now what? | Beginner Series

You’re getting into fitness, have smashed your first few weeks but you’ve just had a series of slip ups that make you want to give up? You’re not failing, you’re just human. Changing your lifestyle and focusing on your fitness isn’t an overnight process. It is a journey with a lot of daily progress but also a few set backs. A lot of little victories but also some fails.

My biggest piece of advice if you feel like you’ve already fallen off the fitness wagon is DON’T GIVE UP!
It takes a while to build new, consistent habits and even people like me who’ve been into it for years still have some “off days”.

But for now, this little “beginner’s guide” will help you get back into the fitness swing of things :)

Slipped up? Here’s what to do next

Compassion over guilt…

I know it’s easier said than done. But really. I’m sure you’re doing your best and working hard on your goals. Give yourself some credit! Acknowledge your efforts and remember that change takes time. Feeling guilty will only make it worse. Let me explain why just below.

… to avoid the vicious cycle

You feel guilty so you train too much and eat too little to “compensate” for your slip up until you have another slip up as a result of restricting yourself. This could lead you to fall into a “restrict/go all out” type of cycle and you don’t need this in your life.

Instead, pick up where you left off!

We tend to overcomplicate things but really it’s that simple: if you missed a few workouts, just go back to the gym. Book a class. Don’t set high expectations, just get a foot in the gym again. If you don’t know what to do, try this full body, beginner-friendly workout!

Re-evaluate your goals

Maybe you fell off track because you set impossible goals. You can’t go from zero to 6 workouts a week or from eating mainly fast foods and ready meals to cooking every day.

You are most likely to succeed if you implement a few changes into your current lifestyle rather than aiming for a complete overhaul. Be patient with yourself. Small steps everyday go a long way :)

It will get easier

We learn by making mistakes. All it takes is a second of courage to get back up after a slip up and come back wiser and stronger!

I can promise you that as times goes by and you build discipline it will be easier to get back into it after a holiday, a party weekend, whatever it is.

I am more than ever grateful for you reading my blog posts, following me on Instagram, liking my Facebook posts and sharing my content with someone who needs it!
