ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 review (unsponsored) after 50 miles

Curious about the new ASICS Gel Nimbus shoe? Here’s everything you need to know about the Gel Nimbus 24 and my thoughts on these shoes as I have just clocked 50 miles in them.

Disclaimer: I was kindly invited to the launch even at the ASICS store in London and was gifted a pair of Gel Nimbus 24. However I was not asked to write this review. As always all opinions are my own.

ASICS Gel Nimbus 24: main characteristics

The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 24 is a max cushioned road running shoe and the latest Gel Nimbus version. Compared to the 23 shoe, it is 10g lighter and its new features make it a bouncier shoe with a less sturdy feel.

The women’s version weighs 247g and has a 13mm drop, whilst the men’s version weighs 280g with a 10mm drop. Both versions come in different colourways are are equipped with reflective details for improved visibilty.

This shoe combines some of ASICS’ signature technologies and features, such as:

  • Trusstic System® technology to reduce the weight of the sole without impacting the structure of the shoe.

  • Rearfoot and Forefoot GEL® Technology Cushioning System to attenuate the shock as you land and take off.

  • ASICS LITE™ rubber which is (allegedly) lighter and more sustainable than standard outsole rubbers.

But the most interesting new feature of the Gel Nimbus 24 is the FF BLAST PLUS™ cushioning which creates a softer landing and improves responsiveness.

Finally, the upper fabric is more breathable and made with recycled materials.

Who is the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 for?

This shoe is made for road runners neutral pronators, which is when the foot lands on the outside of the heel and as you roll towards the toes, the arch lightly collapse inwards to absorb the shock and support your bodyweight.

What types of runs is the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 designed for?

This maxi cushioned shoe combines impact protection and comfort, making it particularly suited to long runs on the road.

That being said, you don’t need to be training for a marathon and doing extremely long runs to use this shoe. The Nimbus 24 is ideal for your easy runs whether you do 6 or 16 miles.

How much does the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 cost?

The RRP is £165 for both men and women’s version, however you may be able to apply a discount code if you get them via an online retailer such as Pro Direct Running

My personal review of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24

First impressions

I tried them for the first time at the launch event I was invited to, we went on an easy 5k run. The shoes felt really comfortable from the get go, which isn’t always the case (for instance, my Nike Pegasus which I now love required a couple runs to feel comfortable).

Although this shoe is not meant to be for fast runs, we did a couple sprints just to test the responsiveness.

I was really impressed with how bouncy they felt. It was too early to know for sure whether I’d love running longer distances in these shoes, but I could tell that they would be serious contenders to my trusted Pegasus.

I sometimes get blisters the first time I run in a new pair of shoes, this wasn’t the case here. No issues at all!

After 50 miles

Since getting these shoes, I have used them for numerous easy runs from 8 to 20k. If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen them in a lot of my stories as well as some running Reels, such as this 20k run.

I have now done just over 50 miles with them (at the time of writing this post) and I can’t think of a single time I regretted wearing this shoes.

The max cushioning does a fantastic job at absorbing the impact and I definitely feel that the responsiveness of the shoe helps run more efficiently, getting some energy back.

This shoe is flexible enough but at the same time supportive, keeping my foot locked in.

I have especially enjoyed wearing the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 for my long runs (15+k) as their bounciness prevents my feet from getting achy after running for a long time and the cushioning keeps me comfortable.

To sum it up, I love the ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 for all the reasons mentioned above, I would recommend them to any road runner who loves a cushioned training and is looking for a comfortable pair of easy running shoes!
